By individualization, people have get rid of the bondage from traditional groups which are family, gender, race, class etc. The society faces the crisis of integration. The second modernity suggested by Beck is based on reflexive modernization. The conclusions of the study are as following: Individualization has emancipated people from traditional society, but people also get lost where there are little standards for reference. Globalization supplies many choices than before, and personal identities become the steering factor in reflexive modernization. Life-style is the basic unit for social integration. The thesis also suggests that individualization can the intermediate variable in explaining the low birth rate. The material condition doesn’t affect people’s concept of marriage directly.
