Summary: | 碩士 === 國立新竹教育大學 === 教育學系碩士班 === 96 === This study focuses on theme-based learning via distance education using video conferencing between two elementary schools, approximately thirteen kilometres apart. In the first semester, the emphasis is on developing team teaching strategies via video conferencing, and creating exploratory curriculum. In the following semester, a subject on insects was carried out in a theme-based teaching and learning setting.
The teaching team had the support and assistance of the schools’ administration when implementing this project. The research on teaching strategies was able to continue because the teachers felt a sense of achievement in the midst of it. In the various teaching strategies considered, the teachers adopted “exploratory teaching” and “discovery learning” was introduced to the students. This led to an increase in their motivation to learn and the teachers served as facilitators to guide them in the process. The distance learning utilising video conferencing also promoted interaction among the students in the two schools. The students were able to observe and learn from each other, which also resulted in them encouraging one another to improve on their project reports. The mutual cooperation between the different schools’ students in this peer-learning project also developed friendship amongst them.
