This study is mainly focused on exploring the satisfaction at school lunch for Grade 5 and 6 students and school staff of elementary schools in Hsinchu County, as well as understanding the difficulties in implementing the school lunch program and suggesting the improving methods for elementary schools in Hsinchu County.
This study is adopted the questionnaire survey and semi-structured interview methods with taking the Grade 5 and 6 students and school staff of public elementary schools in Hsinchu County as the population; in addition, applied the Stratified Random Sampling approach to send out 1475 copies of questionnaire. The number of returned questionnaire was 1114, which reached a returned rate of 75.52%. Furthermore, this study made use of the statistical software SPSS12.0 for Windows and statistical methods, such as t-Test, One-way ANOVA, Scheffe’s Post hoc Comparison, frequency distribution and percentage to carry out the data analysis for those acquired data. In addition, purposively sampled 10 school staff and 8 Grade 5 and 6 students to conduct the interview survey to understand their satisfaction at school lunch and the current difficulties in implementing such lunch program and its improvement suggestions. Then, it has cooperatively applied the interview results with related literature and questionnaire survey results to carry out the analysis and discussion. Thus, according to the results of data analysis, this study has obtained the following conclusions:
1. Grade 5 and 6 students and school staff of elementary schools in Hsinchu County were generally satisfied at the school lunch.
2. Grade 5 and 6 students’ satisfaction at the school lunch will not be different with different genders and grade; however, it will be significantly different in accordance with different school sizes, locations and implementing methods.
3. School staff’s satisfaction at the school lunch will not be different with different school locations; however, it will be significantly different in accordance with different genders, positions, seniorities, school sizes and implementing method.
4. School staff’s satisfaction at the school lunch was significantly higher than Grade 5 and 6 students’.
5. Difficulties in implementing the school lunch program for elementary schools in Hsinchu County were varied; the insufficiency of specialized personnel was the primary difficulty. This study is suggested County Government to set the dieticians as the commonly agreed improvement method.
Therefore, this study has generalized and organized the aforesaid research results to propose some suggestions as the reference to those education administrative competent authorities, teacher training organizations, undertakers of school lunch program, related school administrative personnel, vendors of school lunch and related follow-up researches.
