Summary: | 碩士 === 國防醫學院 === 護理研究所 === 97 === This study examined the effect of massage on maternal stress and attachment relationships of developmental delay (DD) children between 1~6 years old. This is a randomized controlled trial, and cases are recruited through Pediatric Neurology and Pediatric Rehabilitation departments of a medical center in northern Taiwan, age from 1~6 year old DD children and mothers. Cases distribution of age, gender, and early intervention programs were randomized controlled by minimization computer programs into experimental group and control group. Massage was performed once daily, 15minutes each time, 30 days for experimental group, but no massage for control group. 41 cases completed pre-test and post-test 1 evaluation (15 days after recruitment), 31 cases completed post-test 2 evaluation (31 days after recruitment). Results revealed that mothers from experimental group show significant decrease on maternal stress scores during post-test 1 evaluation compare to pre-test scores, and the significancy is greater as time persist(p<.05). Secure attachment relationships also increase significantly as days of massage increase
(p<.05). Related factor for maternal stress is family monthly income, and that for attachment relationships are family monthly income and age of children. In this study massage decreased maternal stress of DD mothers and increased secure attachment relationships. Massage should be included in early intervention programs for DD children to improve attachment relationships and to decrease maternal stress.
