Summary: | 碩士 === 國防醫學院 === 公共衛生學研究所 === 96 === The main purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between health-related quality of life and the basic characteristics, risk factors, treatment schedule, and symptoms of the peptic ulcer patients. Acoordintly, findings of this study may serve as the reference for the improvement of peptic ulcer patients' health-related quality of life.
Study subjects were outpatients with peptic ulcer from one of the medical centers in Taipei, and they received WHOQOL — BREF questionnaire. There were 415 patients who have successfully completed the questionnaire of WHOQOL — BREF. The main findings of this study were as below:
The average age of the subjects is 57.4 years old, mostly are suffered with gastric ulcer (40.8%), male (55.9%), married and still with spouses (69.9%), with educational background lower than elementary school but able to read (31.8%), self-reportedly Buddhists (42.0%), or those who suffer from the disease currently and don't have any jobs (53.2%).
Some of the peptic ulcer patients were infected with Helicobacter pylori (48.2%) and medcine taking (54.7%). Some of them are non-smokers (60.2%) or non-drinkers (65.9%). They stated that they had three meals a day (68.8%), ate acrid food occasionally (39.5%), or lived under stress (47.3%). They self-reported themselves with other diseases (65.8%), or without family history of peptic ulcer (60.4%). Most of peptic ulcer patients were under treatment currently (68.2%).
The number of symptoms about peptic ulcer was 2.39, the average score of pain was 26.30. Most of them were with some symptoms (86.3%) or under two symptoms (57.6%). Some self-reported themselves with no pain (33.3%) or their score of pain ranged 1-50 (44.7%).
We analyzed these data by multiple regression, significant factors on physical domain of WHOQOL include patient’s gender, marital status, educational background, medicine taking, cigarette smoking (within six month), stress, co-morbid, and number of symptoms; significant factors on psychology domain of WHOQOL include patient’s medicine taking, cigarette smoking (within six month), stated three meals a day, stress, co-morbid, number of symptoms; significant factors on social relation domain of WHOQOL include patient’s cigarette smoking (within six month) and educational background; and significant factors on environment domain were marital status, educational background, cigarette smoking(within six month), stress, co-morbid, and frequency of pain.
