It was hypothesized that highly specialized surfer would rate increasing use density less acceptable; moreover, highly specialized surfer’s norm intensity would be stronger and their norm would be more crystallized. The sample was drawn from surfers in the northern beach of WuShi port and shuang shi. Surfer’s specialization were measured with a three dimensional questionnaire, and they were asked to self classified themselves as a committed surfer, an active surfer, or a casual surfer. Then, they were asked to rate their acceptability on eight photos, which represent different use levels from low to high. The result indicates self-classification measure can effectively predict surfer’s specialization. Highly specialization surfer tends to rate high use level photos as unacceptable, and their norm intensity is stronger than low specialization surfer. However, there is no difference in norm crystallization between highly and lowly specialization surfer. The finding has several implications. Firstly, self classification is an effectively method to mesure surfers’specialization. Secondly, using photos to simulate different use level is a good way to draw crowding norms in high use level setting.
