According to Department of Healthcare of Taiwan, for every 19 persons that are above 15 years old there is one who is affected cardiovascular disease, and one out of five elders is affected cardiovascular disease that are above 65 years old. In addition, according to the Bureau of Health Promotion of Taiwan , there is about 60 percent of cardiovascular disease patient that is affected at least one or more chronic disease, and hypertension and hyperlipidemia are the most common among them. Therefore to be effectively detecting atherosclerosis related diseases has become an important task, and personal health condition needs to be taken care by all Taiwanese despite of his or her age. The formation of atherosclerosis always begins silently, that is why sudden death or other serious wound occurs unexpectedly, and therefore to constantly monitoring the condition of arterial stiffness not only helps to understand personal health condition, it also helps to slow down or prevent the progress of atherosclerosis through the regulation of diet and lifestyle. Our laboratory had previously developed PWV instrument (DVP1000), but because DVP1000 measures pulse waves from finger and toe, it requires subject to take off his or her socks and subject also needs to rest in supine position. To further overcome these problems, our laboratory develops a newly and easy operated PWV instrument (DVPE). This study compares the correlation between DVP1000 and DVPE through clinical application, and also investigates the correlation between PWV values and risk factors of cardiovascular disease. This study proposes a novel and convenient way to measure PWV value, and it has superior reproducibility, and is also statistically significant correlated with atherosclerosis risk factors. It is also suitable for the use in homecare field. Since DVPE is a newly developed system, it still requires more clinical experiments to enhance the validity of DVPE for assessment of atherosclerosis. Hsien-Tsai Wu 吳賢財 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 63 zh-TW
