We investigated the effect of the ratio of oxygen and carbon monoxide on the titania films and studied relationship between structure, morphology, photocatalystic efficiency of the films. First, we prepared the TiO2 in pure oxygen ambient as a reference, then we prepared the TiO2 made in the mixed oxygen and carbon monoxide ambient and compared these with those prepared in pure oxygen. We control the carbon-doping concentration by carbon monoxide flow rate with a fixed oxygen flow rate, so the total pressure also increases with carbon monoxide flow rate. We have prepared visible-light photocatalysts TiO2 with high efficiency. The photocatalytic efficiency of as-synthesized sample prepared in mixed CO and O2 gases is lower than that of the sample made in pure O2. After aging treatment, the visible-light photocatalytic efficiency of the sample prepared in mixed CO and O2 gases increases to more than 10 times the photocatalytic efficiency of the sample made in O2. The carbon-doping by CO ambient with PLD is proven effective in preparing visible-light TiO2 photocatalysts.
