Wogonin was isolated from Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, and found can induce cell apoptosis. In addition, oroxylin A effectively induces the vasodilatation to prevent or alleviate the hypertention.
One of the flavonoids, PD98059 selectively blocks the activity of MAP kinase kinase (MAPKK), therefore inhibits the activation of MAP kinase (MAPK) and cell growth. Furthermore, another study found that PD98059 remarkably attenuates low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and decreases the cardiovascular diseases caused by atherosclerosis.
In this work, compounds oroxylin A and wogonin were successfully synthesized and were identified the structure by X-ray. On the other hand, compounds 34 and 35 were synthesized according to the Lee’s study. 1H NMR and X-ray spectra confirmed that Lee’s group did not acquire the compounds oroxylin A and wogonin. Several reactions including esterification, nitration, hydrogenation, Swern-oxidization, formation of acyl chloride, Friedel-Crafts acylation, and ring closure reaction were used in the synthesis. To improve the yield of wogonin, many methods have been tried.
