Abstract
This study aims to investigate the shifts in idea and use of university education in Taiwan. In order to realize the educational idea and use shifts in the universities, it is necessary to make further critiques and examination of university education along with their contexts of historical development. The goals of the study are:
1. To analyze the environmental context of shifts for Taiwan’s university education in each period.
2. To explore the shift situations for the ides and use of university in Taiwan in each period.
3. To investigate shift situations of Taiwan’s university education in each period.
Through document analysis and review approach, Taiwan’s university education can be divided into four periods: 1949-1965, 1966-1986, 1987-1993, 1994-. The major findings of the study are: Initially, the environmental context for the university in Taiwan initially centered on the concept of anti Mainland China in order to sustain the way universities were operated normally. Later, university education was mainly driven by the nation’s economic growth , domestic construction and human resource of industrial structure. Nowadays, it aims to explore depth academy and educate specialized workforce in accordance to the needs of society and country.
