Summary: | 碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 教育科技研究所 === 96 === The aim of this research is to investigate whether using critical thinking instruction in computer-based teaching environment can improve students’ critical thinking ability and academic achievement or not. Participants are the students from two classes in Ching-Chyuan Junior High School. This study follows a pre-test/post-test quasi-experimental design: 31 participants in the experimental group receive computer-based instruction with critical thinking instruction and 30 participants in the control group receive common computer-based instruction, without critical thinking instruction. Research tools include Critical Thinking Test-I, Teacher-pupils Interaction Evaluation, and Academic Test of Geography, and the observation data and the handouts are used as assistance for analysis and discussion. The computer-based teaching material is made by researcher herself and applied to the first-grade junior high school geography curriculum for eight weeks. The main results are as following:
1. Compare to the norm of the critical thinking ability of all junior high school students in Taiwan, the participants in this study are below the average.
2. The effect of using computer technology with critical thinking instruction to enhance students’ overall critical thinking ability is not significant.
3. Using computer technology with critical thinking instruction is helpful for contributing teacher-pupil interactions.
4. The progress of students’ academic achievement is mostly due to the teacher-pupil interactions.
5. The correlation between students’ critical thinking ability and their academic achievements presents medium positive correlation.
