Abstract
The purpose of the study is to develop a suitable inventory of career adaptability for the university students, and to investigate the differences and correlations among subjects backgrounds, personality and career adaptability. In order to devise the Career Adaptability Inventory a survey was conducted, according to which the four factors were pointed out: career concern, career control, career curiosity and career confidence. The study adopted the questionnaire as the methodology. There were 1289 valid subjects chosen from the university students in Taiwan. The statistic methods applied in this study were descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and regression analysis.
The major findings in this study were as follows: (1) There were 21 5-points scale items in the inventory. The reliability and validity of the inventory were perfect. (2) Results showed that the University Students Career adaptability were slightly different among genders, grades, social economic status. The personality including openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness neuroticism has something to do with the University Students Career adaptability. The more openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, the higher Career adaptability. However, the more neuroticism, the lower career adaptability. Conscientiousness may best serve to explain the University Students’ Career adaptability.
Finally according to the research findings, this study further provided some suggestions for practical application and future studies.
