description 碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 農學研究所 === 96 === Abstract The objective of this study was two-fold. This research was performed on different waxy corn (Zea mays) populations grown in Taiwan. Firstly, the agronomic characteristics, approximate composition and antioxidant properties were analyzed on all populations. Also, we utilized ISSR technology to show the differences between populations. Secondly, we planted the c.v. Tainung No.5 in different locations to test the approximate compositions and antioxidant activities. Outcome of test one: The significance tests for differences in agronomic characters in the spring crop indicated that, while ear diameter showed no significant difference, rows of kernels per ear showed the greatest significant difference. However, plant height, ear dry weight, ear length, kernel number per ear, grain dry weight and 100-kernel weight showed no significant differences. The significance tests for differences in agronomic characters for the fall crop indicated that, while ear length showed significant difference, plant height and ear height showed the greatest significant differences. However, ear dry weight, kernel number per ear, grain dry weight, 100-kernel weight and row per ear all showed no significant differences. The significance tests for differences in composition indicated some differences. For the spring crop, crude fat and crude fiber showed significant differences. Moisture, ash, crude protein and N.F.E showed no significant differences. The significance tests for differences for the fall crop indicated that crude fiber showed significant differences. Crude fat showed the greatest significant difference. However, moisture, ash, crude protein and N.F.E showed no significant differences. The significance tests for differences in antioxidant activities in the spring crop indicated that total phenolics and flavonoids showed no significant differences. Ferrous iron chelating capacity and total antioxidant activity showed great significant differences. However, DPPH free radical scavenging effect and reducing power showed no significant differences. The significance tests for differences in antioxidant activities in the spring crop indicated that total antioxidant activity showed significant differences. DPPH free radical scavenging effect showed the greatest significant differences. However, ferrous iron chelating capacity and reducing power both showed no significant differences. The results of the genetic relationship analysis by ISSR (inter simple sequence repeat) were consistent between spring and fall. The tests showed that all waxy corn populations considered in the spring crop could be divided into three groups, namely: (1) Yunlin, Tainung No.5 (2) Funong and (3) Puzih, Singang, Heimeizhen. The results of the genetic relationship analysis by ISSR showed that the waxy corn populations studied in the fall crop season could also be divided into three groups, namely: (1) Minsyong (2) Wufong, Taitung, Puzih and (3) Yunlin, Singang, Tainan. The outcome of the second test: The significance tests for differences in approximate composition of physiological maturity on c.v. Tainung No.5 in the spring crop indicated that ash crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber and N.F.E all showed no significant differences. Moisture showed great significant difference. The test of antioxidant properties indicated that total phenolics and flavonoids showed no significant differences. However, total antioxidant activity showed significant differences. DPPH free radical scavenging effect showed the greatest significant difference. Ferrous iron chelating capacity and reducing power both showed no significant differences. The significance tests for differences in dry kernels of c.v. Tainung No.5 in the spring crop indicated that crude fat showed significant difference, and moisture, ash. N.F.E showed the greatest significant differences. The test of antioxidant capacity indicated that flavonoids and ferrous iron chelating capacity showed significant differences. The significance tests for differences in approximate composition of physiological maturity on c.v. Tainung No.5 in the fall crop indicated that moisture and ash showed significant differences. Crude protein and N.F.E showed the greatest significant differences. The test of antioxidant capacity yielded various results. It indicated that ferrous iron chelating capacity, total antioxidant activity and reducing power showed significant differences, but flavonoids and DPPH free radical scavenging effect showed the greatest significant differences. The significance tests for differences in dry kernel on c.v. Tainung No.5 in the fall crop indicated that crude protein and crude fiber showed significant differences. Moisture, ash, crude fat and N.F.E. showed the greatest significant differences. The test of antioxidant capacity indicated that total phenolics showed significant differences. DPPH free radical scavenging effect, ferrous iron chelating capacity, total antioxidant activity and reducing power showed the greatest significant differences.
