Four participants were interviewed in this research, and narrative approach was used to analyze the data. The major findings are summarized as followed: 1.The involving process of parent-child triangulation pattern are as followed: (1)From Bowen theory perspective: a. The couple’s enmeshed relations with their original family members amplify the tension between them. b. The tension between the couple draws their child into the parent-child triangulation pattern. (2)From gender perspective: a. The dysfunction of the spouse subsystem plays an very important role on couple’s conflicts or disengagement. b. The unsatisfied but helpless wife can do nothing but turn to their daughter to get some comfort. c. The parents’ adherence to paternalism pushes the daughter to stay in a position which she has to please both of her parents. d. The role expectation of a “caregiver” keeps the daughter away from leaving the parent-child triangulation pattern. e. The conflicts between parents and other children make the daughter have higher self-expectation of taking care of her parents. 2. The factors which help the adult women change the role in the parent-child triangulation pattern are as follow: a. The interaction between the extra-family experience and their self reflection. b. They building up person-to-person relationship with both parents. 3. The adult women’s feelings of involvement in parent-child triangulation pattern are as followed: a. Negative feelings: anxiety, worry, frustration, powerless, angry, pain, exhausted and ambivalence. b. Positive feelings closeness with parents, fulfillment of filial piety and valued by other members of family. 4.The effects of involvement of parent-child triangulation of the adult women are as followed: a. Interpersonal relationship—They pay more attention to other people’s needs than theirs, and they play the role of caregiver and comforter in their social life as they do in their family. b. Career development—They worked very hard to get good grade in class, and they also strive for maintain the equilibrium of self interests and their parents’ expectation. c. Intimate relationship—They’ve got lessons from their parents’ experience, and they also try their best to avoid making the same mistakes.
