碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 輔導與諮商學系所 === 96 === The purpose of the research is to understand the personal and marital effects of child-free volunteers’ decision making process and the life experiences in the mainstream society of these volunteers. To understand the decision-making experiences, the research takes the “content-context” narrative analysis as the main research method and interviews four interviewees who are voluntarily child-free and are over 35. The main discoveries of the research are as below: 1.The participants continue to check and identify their spouses’ fertility intention, stand on the voluntarily child-free decision with their spouses, and gradually affirm their chile-free decision. 2.The process of the participants’ childbearing decision is full of reflectivity, includes the reflectivity of family-of-origin, the reflectivity of intimacy, the reflectivity of self and the mainstream discourse of society. 3.The participants feel “no-regret-but-satisfied” about their voluntarily child-free decision; besides, they are aware that having no children wouldn’t deprive them of time to share with their spouses, which is a positive effect. 4.The participants have suffered stigma and pressure to have a baby from all kinds of life fields. They may identify the mainstream discourse of society or get confused, but they still insist on the childfree decision, which has been discussed and persist with their spouse collaborately. The foregoing process not only makes the childfree couples more intimate and cohesive, it also helps them to stand the pressure of mainstream together. The research not only discusses the findings but also introspects the research process, and will provide practical advises to the counseling workers and future researches.
