However, recently, accident incidences concerning battery product burning or harmful explosion are frequently reported in news or magazines. These accidents may come from the users’ mistake habit, poor battery quality, or inappropriate charger-circuit design. Therefore, the main purpose of this thesis is to study the nickel cadmium (NiCd) battery charger and to improve the safety during charging. This is accomplished by adding extra components to the charger circuit to protect from overcharging. Those components in various circuit configurations such as resistors, current fuses and thermal fuses are studied, and their performance are evaluated. The results can be referred by the industry to research and develop relevant battery chargers in the future. Keywords: Secondary battery, nickel-cadmium battery, charger.
