Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the professional growth needs and current status, their relationship and effects of variables of the Chinese teachers in junior high schools.
This research used questionnaire. “The Professional Growth Needs of the Chinese Teachers in Junior High Schools Questionnaire” developed in this study was adopted to make a survey on 191 teachers of the public junior high schools in Taichung County. Data were analyzed through the statistics like mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, person product-moment correlation and canonical correlation analysis.
The conclusions we have come to are as follows:
1. Generally speaking, the current status of the Chinese teachers’ professional growth in junior high schools showed above average.
2. The professional growth needs of the Chinese teachers in junior high schools presented medium to high degree.
3. The current status of the Chinese teachers’ professional growth was significantly different in terms of the teacher’s position in junior high school.
4. The personal background variables, such as age and past service experience were significantly related to the professional growth needs of the Chinese teachers in junior high schools.
5. There was significant correlation between the current status of the junior high Chinese teachers’ professional growth and needs.
Through the results to suggest junior high school teachers, junior high schools, educational administrative agencies and future researchers.
