Summary: | 碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 特殊教育學系所 === 96 === The purpose of this study was to examine the students’ vocational interests on senior high school in self-contained special education classrooms and .influences of gender and grade level. The consistency between students’ interests and available trainings in school programs together with the fitness for the practicum settings of senior students were also investigated. A hundred and seventy-four students participated in this study. The descriptive statistics, a two-way ANOVA and Chi-square are applied for data analysis.
The results indicate that gender and grade-level have significant influences on students’ vocational interests. Findings also indicate that students with mental retardation wish to work as bakers, food service workers or assistants in office. Students are strongly interested in house-keeping and service industry fields, which are the most common vocational trainings in senior vocational high school special education curriculum. The data also reveals that about 60% of vocational curriculum matches students’ interests.
Most senior students with mental retardation do their practicum in shopping center, service industry, or manufacture, following by bakery, car-wash center and factory. About 60% of senior students’ vocational interests are met by the training curriculum, and about half of the practicum settings are consistent with the training provided by schools. However, only about one-third of practicum placements match students’ interests, and there are only 14.8% of overlaps among the vocational training curriculum, students’ interests, and practicum settings. Suggestions for curriculum, instruction, and future research are also provided in this study.
