This study lasts for about three and half months for an 8th –grade class. Qualitative and quantitative data collection included video-tapes, questionnaires, interviews, journal evaluation, students’ homework, group worksheets, and personal feedbacks. The main results of study are as follows: 1. By correcting and revising three action research cycles, the researcher developed feasible 5E learning cycle inquiry instruction designing. 2. Obstacles in inquiry teaching were: Problems of designing worksheets, order control, lecture speed, objects confining to some students only, duration control, the cram school experience affecting teaching , the way of construction difficulty for some students. The researcher resolved the obstacles by reflection and action. 3. After performing mathematic inquiry-based teaching with 5E learning cycle, students’ motivation of learning mathematics improved significantly. 4. The achievement did not change after 5E learning cycle inquiry instruction.5. Teaching ability has been advanced. Suggestions are as follows:1. Teachers in inquiry activity must have the willingness and the ability to learn to teach with inquiry. 2. Teachers can use cooperative learning to assist instruction. 3. Teachers can utilize wait time, score rubric and multiple assessment. 4.Teaching on 8th –grade class must consider that the examination affect teaching.
