Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 歷史學系碩博士班 === 96 === The aim of this paper attempts to explore why Yuyu Yang enjoyed the motifs of the dragon and the phoenix and how he displayed “Dragon & Phoenix series ”.There are three periods of Yang’s creations about “Dragon& Phoenix series ”:”the Traditional & Realistic Period ”,”the Abstract & Experimental Period ”and ”the Stainless Steel & Philosophical Thought Period ”. First, Yang was separated from his parents in his childhood. The phoenix became a symbol for his much-missed mother and later became a recurrent motif in Yang's sculpture. In the Traditional & Realistic Period, Yang got the inspiration from the familiar symbols of the dragon in Taiwan countryside. Secondly, the modern painting movement began in late 1950s.In the Abstract & Experimental Period , Yuyu Yang converted traditional symbols like the phoenix and dragon into fluid abstract forms. Yuyu Yang got his creative thought from old Chinese veins. Finally, After 1980s, Yang used the stainless steel to create a lot of “Dragon & Phoenix series” .In the Stainless Steel & Philosophical Thought Period, the works displayed a profundity and depth that comes from a solid grounding in both Western and Chinese aesthetics.
