It leads to that there are plenty of hot spring resources in Taiwan. However, the domestic people increasingly use the hot spring resource and the demand for hot spring is relatively high. Therefore, to avoid the damaging of nature and to ensure continuous utilization, the proper planning and management for hot spring resource become an important issue, especially in estimation on permissive yield of hot spring. To estimate of hot spring permissive yield, three terms (groundwater safe yield, geothermal resource, and fracture pattern) are being considered for building an empirical model in this study. In the first term, groundwater recharge and safe yield are looked as two main parameters, whereas groundwater recharge is calculated from indexical groundwater recharge method. The geothermal term is controlled by the ratio of temperature difference, which is obtained by initial, steady-lowest, and subjected temperature. The fracture pattern term is considered by a rock quality designation (RQD) index which is used to describe fractured degree of rock matrix in this term. There are two cases, the Sz-Chung-Shi and Wu-Lai hot spring areas in this study. Based on our developed procedures and three factors under the empirical model, the results show that the permissive yield of the Sz-Chung-Shi and Wu-Lai hot spring areas are the value at 22.63×104 m3/year and 278.78×104 m3/year respectively.
