The adsorbed dye alignment layer can be re-oriented by changing the direction of the writing laser beam and heating the sample simaltaneously. This transmissive liquid crystal display is extremely simple to fabricate, and can be optically written, erased and re-written for ~20 times with a contrast larger than 5.
