Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 企業管理學系碩博士班 === 96 === Extant research has found the positive effect of knowledge acquisition on firm performance. Given that the excellent ability of acquiring knowledge can help firms to derive market and technology knowledge from other organizations, this study argues that firms are likely to identify new opportunities, such as product innovation and new market, via such ability. Therefore, this study aims to verify the relationship between knowledge acquisition and opportunity identification while discussing the influence of entrepreneurial orientation and goal orientation upon the organizational capability mentioned above.
Based upon a questionnaire survey of 144 technology-based firms, the empirical analyses point out that: (1) knowledge acquisition is positively related to opportunity identification. (2) entrepreneurial orientation is positively related to opportunity identification. (3) learning orientation is positively related to knowledge acquisition and opportunity identification. (4) entrepreneurial orientation is not significantly related to knowledge acquisition. (5) proving-performance and avoiding-performance orientations are not significantly positively related to knowledge acquisition and opportunity identification.
The study results suggest that firms should use organizational resource to develop the ability of acquiring knowledge from their customers. Subsequently, through the knowledge acquired, firms can discover new business opportunities. Meanwhile, firms need to become more entrepreneurial-oriented so as to identify more rewarding business opportunities. In addition, firms should hire the individuals with learning orientation for developing the organizational capabilities regarding knowledge acquisition and opportunity identification.
