A good project leader is the key factor to make a successful project, especially for the new product developed with limited time, cost and quality requirement. This research focuses on the effect of project manager’s leadership and personality on new product development. It means an establishment of the teamwork rules to reach a highly effective performance by gathering internal consensus. The objects of this research are project managers of a tech company. By using deep interview and qualitative approach, coupled with some other functional leaders’ opinions and statements evidenced by project leader’s actual behavior and performance, we may know something about the benefits resulted from project leader role in the project, and the effect of project manager’s leadership and personality on the project performance. After the interviews, the findings from data analysis are depicted as follows. First of all, an ideal behavior of a leader of project management should move toward the teamwork pattern. Second, the best project manager’s personality should contain both “Extraversion” and “Openness to Experience” types. Third, although personality is not easy to be changed, it is indeed highly related with project manager’s leadership. Finally, the most proper project performance measurement index should consider weather or not, from the prospective of the company, target schedule, cost control, quality and satisfaction of the project are reached. This research focuses on the effect of project manager’s leadership and personality on new product development.
