Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 土木工程學系所 === 96 === Abstract In the welding process of steel rails, especially on-site welding, many unexpected factors may lead to the presence of flaws in the weld bead that reduce the load-carrying capacity of the wielding joints and possibly causes the break of the joints as trains pass through. The study presented in this thesis involves a nondestructive inspection on the welding joints with the ultrasonic technique and a destructive test on the welded specimens to check the welding quality of the cross section. The objective of the study is to examine the possibility of utilizing the ultrasonic technique for nondestructively locating the flaws in the weld bead in advance. The nondestructive inspection is verified by a destructive test. The experimental results show that the ultrasonic technique is capable of detecting flaws in the rail weld bead. Therefore, the ultrasonic evaluation can be applied in the factory to reduce the amount of destructive tests. In addition, the ultrasonic evaluation can also be applied in site to check the welding quality and improve the safety of train movement.
