The LSI is composed of six components: general economics, employment, innovation research, economic reform, social cohesion, and environment. The results show that Taiwan is ranked as number 19, Japan is the 8th, and USA is the 9th based on LSI ranking 34 countries. Within Taiwan, the innovation research and social cohesion show the best performance among the six components. Compared to the other countries, the indexes for Taiwan are below average in the general economics and employment, but the index of the environment is above average. By analyzing each indicator within LSI, we find that the GDP indicator in Taiwan is below average. The increase in the GDP indicator could be associated with the development of high technology industry. Hence, it suggests that the government should encourage the development of high technology industry continuously in the future. From the aspect of employment, the old age employment rate and the female labor participation rate in Taiwan are both ranked as low-level and additionally, the long-term unemployment rate in Taiwan exhibits an increasing trend. We also find that the R&D expenditure and business investment in Taiwan possess a quite low-level. The green house gas emission and energy intensity in Taiwan grow up substantially. Therefore, the Taiwan government must take some measures to keep the environment sustainable. 作者未提供 江靜儀 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 65 zh-TW |
