Also, it examined effects of the on-line reading club on students’ learning reaction and teachers’ instruction during the study. Meanwhile, potential problems and solutions were studied when the on-line reading club was applied. This study, an action research, selected some fifth grade students at an elementary school in Keelung City as participants in which the on-line reading club was used to assist instruction and learning. The on-line reading club was created on e-learning platform of Keelung City where on-line reading materials are composed of supplementary reading materials after content of the text books of social science was analyzed. The platform allowed students to do on-line reading and write, share their afterthoughts, and get feedback from teachers and peers Data were collected from teachers’ and observers’ logs, materials posted by students on-line, teachers’ memos and by learning interest scales. The data consist both qualitative and quantitative ones. After data analysis, results are shown as follows: With use of the on-line reading club, the researcher found that students have better understanding of history via on-line reading materials. Learners not only enhance knowledge of social science but also improve attention span in the class of social science. Diversified and interesting reading materials enrich students’ motivation for learning social science. When writing reflections on-line, students are able to look at the same thing in more than one aspects, improving ability to express. On-line interaction allows educators and students share and discuss their ideas with each other without being limited by time and space. The on-line reading club enables students to play a more active role in learning. Therefore, their information literacy improved as well. The researcher also proposed suggestions to education administration, schools and follow-up research. Keywords and phrases: on-line reading club, social studies, learning interests Nellie S.
