Chapter 1 examines the crisis of human “existence” in modern days, the limitation and restriction imposed by post-modern civilization, and the importance of mental health education in this civilization, in hope that Zhuang-zi’s thoughts could generate new revelations for life education. This chapter is divided into four sections. Section 1 describes the background and motives of this research. Section 2 specifies the research scope. Section 3 explains the research method. Section 4 addresses the research purposes.
Chapter 2 is based on the theme of “Revelation of life and death education in life education based on Zhuang-zi’s thoughts”, and comprises 3 sections. Section 1 addresses the importance of life and death education. Section 2 discusses life and death education using Zhuang-zi’s thoughts of “viewing death and life as the same.”Section 3 probes into the attitude towards death based on Zhuangzi’s concept of“following the trend during stable period.”
Chapter 3 is based on the theme of “Revelation of environmental ethics in life
education based on Zhuang-zi’s thoughts”, and comprises 3 sections. Section 1
discusses the imbalanced nature in modern civilization, and urges the emphasis on the right environmental ethics. Section 2 presents Zhuang-zi’s concept of “actionless action leads to spontaneity”, so as to reduce the meaningless desires and destruction of the environment. Section 3 establishes Zhuang-zi’s concept of “all things in the universe are equal” to treat the things in the universe.
Chapter 4 is based on the theme of “Revelation of character integrity and
spiritual development based on Zhuang-zi’s thoughts”, and comprises 3 sections. Section 1 explains the importance of character integrity and spiritual development in behavioral practice. Section 2 discusses about elevating one’s spirituality by employing Zhuang-zi’s cultivation by “fasting of the mind” and “setting and forgetting”. Section 3 discusses about reaching Zhuang-zi’s ideal of “free-minded without depending on others”, and surpassing all formal and formless limitations, in order to establish the ideal character.
Chapter 5 concludes that life education is the core of educational reform. This IIIresearch hopes that Zhuang-zi’s life philosophy could provide multi-facet revelations to life education, and enrich the knowledge domain of Oriental educational philosophy.
