Summary:碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 教育研究所碩士在職專班 === 96 === The purpose of the research is, through an approach by questionnaire survey, to discuss whether reading motivation, attitudes, habits and choices of extracurricular children’s readings of middle- and high-grade elementary school students in Matsu Area vary according to children’s different backgrounds. In the research, a survey approach is employed; middle- and high-grade elementary school students in Matsu Area are taken as the subject. It is expected to achieve an overall understanding of the current situation of these students’ reading through the research. It is also believed that in the future it will be helpful in improving student’s motivation, attitudes, habits and schedule and development of reading exercises. In data analyses, the research uses statistics methods such as arithmetic mean, standard deviation, frequency distribution, and statistics percentage to proceed with analyzing. The major results are as follows. 1. Situation of reading motivation and Attitudes of middle- and high-grade elementary school students in Matsu Area (1) Students generally speaking have good reading motivation and attitudes. (2) Students having different sexes, studying in different grades and studying in different areas have different reading motivation and attitudes. 2. Situation of reading habits of middle- and high-grade elementary school students in Matsu Area (1) Generally speaking, the number of books that students read every week is few and period of time that they spend on reading every week is short. (2) Students having different sexes, studying in different grades and studying in different areas have different reading habits. 3. Situation regarding choices of extracurricular children’s readings of middle- and high-grade elementary school students in Matsu Area (1) The top three categories of extracurricular children’s reading that students most like to read are stories, recreation and entertainment and pictures. (2) Students having different sexes, studying in different grades and studying in different areas have similar choices of extracurricular children’s readings. Finally, according to the results, the research will also propose some suggestions for schools, teachers, parents, students, educational administration authority and follow-up future research.
