碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 風險管理與保險學系碩士在職專班 === 96 === Abstract This study uses the model of multi-phase Balanced Scorecard for performance appraisal rather than simply use quantitative performance appraisal method. The 14 Non-life insurance companies in Taiwan are the subject of this study. The purposes of the study are as follows: 1. Set up an appraisal model based on Balanced Scorecard to analyze the performance of the Non-life insurance companies in Taiwan, to find out the better and the less stable Non-life insurers and explore the reason why. 2. The rankings with four phases of the Balanced Scorecard of the Non-life insurance companies in Taiwan from Y2002 to Y2006. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The top five companies of the weighted average of the total score in ranking are Cathay Century Insurance, Fubon Insurance, Shinkong Insurance, Tokio Marine Newa Insurance, Taiwan Fire and Marine Co., eneral Insurance Company; The bottom five are Walsun Insurance, AIG General, Union Insurance, Zurich Insurance (Taiwan) and South China Insurance. 2. This research summaries and proposes whether competitive or not in company performance with merge and acquisition, business quality and the financial holding company background.
