In contrast to traditional art patterns, fractal arts are art creation based on the mathematical theory.
This study explores and develops a method of designing textile based on the fractal arts pattern. According to Julia and Mandelbrot sets, the relationship between fractal geometric shape and mathematic parameter is discussed, especially the controlled condition pertaining to the generating of fractal patterns resulting from second-order and high-order complex functions in the complex plane. This study has established a practical fractal pattern generating model and then compared different types of fractal pattern shapes with consideration of the control elements for the generating of fractal patterns. Next, a fractal pattern design system is developed by integrating the fractal pattern generating model and numerical method.
In modern days, the internet allows a web-based system, and therefore the fractal pattern design system adopts web-based JavaScript as development tool. Finally, the patterns created by the fractal pattern design system are applied to textile pattern design.
