Because various academicians define the Online Novel inconsistently, it is suggested to correct the fallacy first, and then to comprehensively collate an appropriate definition with regard to the Online Novel. This research is to probe into the motivation and behaviors that readership participate in Online Novel, and to analyze differences among the leisure motivations and behaviors of readership with different background variables. The research sample comprised online readership from five forums constructed by the Online Novel publishers. A total number of 430 questionnaires were dispatched and retrieved 389 valid copies. The retrieval ratio was around 90%. Then the derived data were analyzed through various statistic methods including Frequency Distribution, Mean, Standard Deviation, T-test, One-way ANOVA, Analysis of Correlation, Regression Analysis, and Cluster Analysis. Results are obtained as follows: 1. Samples of Online Novel readership are mainly females aged from 21 to 30; most of them are university (or college) students categorized by vocation and education; their income is usually less than NTD10,000; they have read Online Novel for 1~3 years and most of them averagely spend on hour everyday; more of them usually read Online Novel on the websites through the internet platform; they often read novels at home, and the type of Online Novel is mainly romance. 2. Regarding the leisure motivation of Online Novel readership, results appear that “Social Needs” scores the highest and “Relaxation Needs” scores the lowest; regarding the participation behaviors, results appear that “Reading Novels” scores the highest and “Novel Writing” scores the lowest. 3. Online Novel readership with different genders, education backgrounds, occupations and income amounts significantly vary in respect of their leisure motivation; readership with different background variables significantly vary in respect of their participation behaviors. 4. There are positive correlations between leisure motivations and participation behaviors of Online Novel readership; their leisure motivations has significantly positive influences on the participation behaviors. 5. It is the very essence of Online Novels to maintain the status of “High Interactions with Strong Dialogue Nature”. Jian-Fu Yang 楊建夫 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 97 zh-TW
