JIS Z 3114 “weld metal for method of hardness test” was used as the testing method for arc welding for local reinforcement of material surface. We have investigated the metallographiy of the samples by OM and SEM, the composition of the samples by EDX, and the hardness of the samples by the Vickers hardness measurement. The results indicated that arc welding has increased the hardness of the surface at least twice of the hardness of base material which was HV170. The hardness and composition of the cladding layer were affected by the composition and particles in the welding electrodes.
