Taiwan obtained the fine reputation for “The Fastener Producing Kingdom” in 1984. Along with China's rise and fast development, Taiwan's market superiority of standard fastener was to be substituted gradually. Therefore, the domestic fastener enterprises have to develop fastener product with high unit price. At present the domestic screw manufacturing processes are usually relying on the senior technical staffs who usually have threading experience over ten years and produce screws according to trial-and-error. Although trial-and-error can produce the screw, this manufacture pattern will immediately influence the die life, and hinder the company’s research and development advancement. This study will apply the method of CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) in resolving the above mentioned issues. And it is expected to shorten the time of on-site testing through the DEFORM-3D software which uses FEM (Finite Element Method) for heading and thread rolling simulation. So as to reduce the actual mold testing time and control the parameters of forming processes. On the other hand, this research combine the standard 3D design software (SolidWorks) and programming language(Visual Basic 6.0) to develop the "Screw and forming mold automatic construction system". This system not only could construct CAD model of the screw, blank, and mold fastly, but also could transfer the files in *.STL format to DEFORM-3D for processes simulation. The “ screw and the forming mold automatic construction system” which is developed by this research can contribute the screw process design through systematic approach, supply the reference for domestic screw enterprises and help enterprises in the experience accumulation and the technical inheritance.
