Synthesis and characterization of a novel phosphorous- containing flame retardant and properties of its epoxy networks

碩士 === 國立高雄應用科技大學 === 化學工程系碩士班 === 96 === In this study, a novel phosphorous-containing additive flame retardant, DOPO-N, was synthesized through the reaction of 9,10-dihydro- 9-oxa-10-phosphaphnanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) with nitrogen-containing compound, and the phosphorous-containing resultant was...

The curable epoxy resins with various phosphorus contents were prepared via the addition of DOPO-N. The curing behavior of curable resins were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the properties of cured resins were studied by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), thermal mechanical analysis(TMA), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), dielectric analysis (DEA), UL-94 vertical and limiting oxygen index (LOI). Moreover, the kinetics of thermal decomposition was evaluated by Kissinger method and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method. The results showed that the phosphorus- containing cured epoxy resins will inecrease storage modulus (E’) and char yield by increase phosphorus contents. It is found that the activation energy at lower stage of the degradation decreased by the incorporation of flame retardant components, while increased at higher stage of the degradation. An increase in the phosphorus contents in the cured resins led to higher moisture absorption and lower dielectric constant. On adding 0.5wt% phosphorus content, the UL-94 V-0 rating (nonflammable) was achived. High LOI value (found 32) could achieved with a low phosphorus content around 1.0wt.%, which implied that the flame retardency was improved by the incorporation of DOPO-N.As a fuction of synergistic effect of phousphorus and nitrogen elements, the thermosetted resins of DGEBA cured with BADCy and DDS revealed an excellent flame retardance.
