It will be a win-win situation for district hospitals and the aging society, if district hospitals can transform operation into or provide long-term care in cooperating government policy of integrated long-term services for aging society. This study aims to explore district hospitals’perceptions,to examine district hospitals needs, and to analyze the factors influencing district hospitals in providing long-term services or in transforming services into long-term services. A structured questionnaire was mailed to three hundreds thirty eight district hospitals, excluding specialized hospitals of ophthalmology, pediatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology. The number of respondents was 100(29.59%). Sixty respondent hospitals currently provide long-term care. Forty respondent hospitals have not provided services. There are nineteen hospitals is considering to provide or transforming services. Most respondent hospitals prefer to provide or transform long-term care by self-employment. They desire financial supports or supplements and aids from government to coordinate area resources and cooperation. The reasons of unwillingness to provide long-term services are return of investment and insufficient knowledge of management of long-term services. The result of conducting logistic regression reveals that size of hospital, scope of medical service, performance preservation of outpatient and inpatient service, and advantage of competitive are important factors influencing district hospital’s choice in transforming services into long-term services. Under the pressure of medical services environment, transforming or providing long-term service can be regarded a solution for district hospitals to survive. Government should provide essential supports to help district hospitals to transform or provide long-term services in order to cater for the trend of ageing society. none 陳芬如 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 98 zh-TW
