His art works include a wide range of areas and he is revered as the “Father of Chinese cartoons”. He lived in a turbulent era when China faced unprecedented challenges. Many of Feng Zikai’s works are drawings and cartoons themed on children. By constant caring for, praising children and returning to their innocence, he hopes to attain the greatest and ultimate goal of oneness combining art and religion. This essay examines Feng Zikai’s view on children as revealed in his aesthetics. First, the essay explores Feng Zikai’s education background in order to trace the formation and contents of his aesthetic view on children. And then, it examines the characteristics of his aesthetic view on children, and sees how it might be applied to the art education. Finally, the essay discusses his achievement in relation to modern Chinese art education.
