The loss on ignition of ash residue is one of the most important index to judge the combustion efficacy for municipal solid waste incinerator. Generally, loss on ignition of ash residue is affected by those factors such as refuse composition and combustion conditions. This study is aimed to construct a structural equation model to quantitatively evaluate the relationship between the factors and quantity of loss on ignition of ash residue. To evaluate the compositional effect of refuse on loss on ignition of combustion ash residue, the portion of lignin rich materials, including wood, leaves, paper, and waste food, was assigned to be the index for refuse composition.
Both incineration temperature and excess air were used as the factors represent the combustion conditions. The data used for the study is obtained from a practical solid waste incineration plant. A total 7 years data record of combustion conditions has been input to conduct the statistical calculation. It was found that both incineration temperature and excess air have a negative effect on the quantity of loss on ignition of ash residue, while refuse composition has the positive effect. Also, the refuse composition was found to be the most important factor affecting the loss on ignition.
