Summary: | 碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 圖書資訊學系 === 96 === Libraries are service-oriented organizations. The aim of the library service is to satisfy users’ information needs. Recently, the field of gerontology has become more and more important. The research about elderly persons has increased sharply. Although information needs of the elder people are various, health issues have always been critical in their lives. Reviewing related literature, there are very few studies about health information needs of the elderly. Therefore, this study utilized questionnaire survey and interview methods to explore the information needs and information seeking behavior of the elderly users at Taipei Municipal Library. It is hoped that the results of the study would be helpful for providing better library service for the elderly.
Based on the data collected by questionnaire and interview surveys, the research findings are: (1) the elderly people view health information as very important, the demands for health information are very high as well; (2) the elderly people need various kinds of health topics; (3) the elderly users of the public library tend to use newspapers as their major health information source; (4) the elderly people still think it difficult to find appropriate health information; (5) the elder persons seldom search health information through Internet; (6) libraries are viewed as valuable resources for finding health information by the elderly; (7) the elderly people think that health organizations are the most appropriate place for offering health information
According to the research findings, the suggestions include: (1) for health organizations: improving the community health information services; (2) for libraries: libraries cooperate with health professionals on selecting health-related books; answering health-related questions; producing health promotion pamphlets, etc.; (3) for the mass media and publishing industry: providing more health-related media programs or publications for the elderly.
