Description
Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 日本語文學系 === 96 === In this thesis, the main discourse is focused on “Ootsugomori” and “Takekurabe” , the two republished works by Ichiyo Higuchi. While dealing with the problem of narrator in the novels, we also discuss the literature world and in what ways that the image of Higuchi was built by her readers. Furthermore, the position of Higuchi in Japanese literature is no less an interesting issue of this thesis. The first chapter deals mainly, through the viewpoint of gender, with the female position, the education of girls, and the kinds of occupation that women could do during the age of Menji when education was about to bloom. Moreover, as a woman in Meiji's, Ichivo’s connection to the nation-state is also of great concern in the thesis. Besides, investigation will embark on the main reason for the establishment of women writers during this period, laying emphasis on the relation between the unification-of-spoken-and-written Japanese and the style of women writers, the problem of narrator in their novels, and their problems with the media as well. The second chapter begins with the re-discovery of the value of Higuchi's early works (the archetype or the molding period of Higuchi's female-disguised-style and also the model of her later works). Then by investigating the connection between Higuchi and the magazine “Bungakukai” through which her works were being published the most, the mutual influence between Higuchi and the members of “Bungakukai” is discussed. Finally, by focusing on the novels republished on the magazines “Bungeikurabu” and “Taiyou” but which appeared earlier on “Bungakukai”, Higuchi's position as a female writer from the literature world to popular world is discussed. In the third chapter, the comparison structure over money of the story world is discovered through the analysis of the characters in the republished novel "Ootsugomori”. Meanwhile the function of the narrator who is performing a big role in the story is examined. In the forth chapter, aside from scrutinizing the republished “Takekurabe” as a whole, the analysis also concerns the position of narrator who is leading readers in a certain direction and the comparison of the structure of social status of the characters in the story.
