碩士 === 佛光大學 === 藝術學研究所 === 96 === “Audio Publications”, a vocal medium of communication, include the earlier wire albums, Bakelite 78, vinyl records, cassettes and modern digital disc, MD, MP3, memory disc…etc. With the rapid development of technology, audio publications show up in different ways from culture to culture worldwide. Unfortunately, because of the free downloading from the net and the literary piracy, most audio publishers have had such a hard time surviving over the past 5 years that four global leading record companies work together to fight piracy and illegal downloading, however, not much progress. In Taiwan, there are a variety of audio publications. The yearly sale has declined from 12.5 billion dollars in 1997 to 2 billion dollars nowadays. There is a massive imbalance between demand and supply. The quality of audio publications varies a lot. The budget for an album may cost from 50,000 to 3,500,000 dollars; the prices of publications vary from an ordinary 190-dollar CD to a high-priced JVC-XRCD, costing NT$1,860. The M-based society is revealed. Among all kinds of albums, musical albums are more competitive than others; therefore, some of the record companies in Taiwan focus on them, such as “Green Music”, “New Age Music”, “World Music”, and “Cross-border Music”…etc. With so many kinds of music, it is important to pick out the most popular with audience for that would be the guide trend for record and album producing.
