The present research investigates the effects of art therapy on school life adaptation of middle-year primary pupils whose mothers are from foreign countries. The first purpose of the research is to find out the influences of art therapy. The second purpose of the research is to investigate the changing processes through these participants’ performance. The third purpose of the research is to conclude some significant viewpoints for further researches. A case study method was applied to the research. During the study, art therapy activities were held in eight weeks, and the researcher would talk to each participant by using a work-sheet of “School- Life Adaptation Form” before and after the study. Furthermore, other work-sheets were made by the researcher for further survey, such as “Information Sheet of the Class Teachers”, “Observation Record Form”, “Topic Learning Work-Sheet”, “Questionnaires for the Participants’ Feedback”, “Questionnaires for the Class Teachers’ Feedback”. Nevertheless, tape and video recording were also applied to the present study in order to assess the differences of school life adaptation between participating and non-participating the art therapy for the pupils whose mothers are from foreign countries.
The result indicates that these participants did make improvement on different levels in learning adaptation, peer-relationship adaptation, and self adaptation. The participants and their teachers also believe that art therapy provides positive influences on their school life adaptation.
