In this thesis, we implement the proposed energy conservative Split FIFO-Buffer Architecture (the SFBA), which is suitable for the Medium Access Controller (MAC) of the 802.11 WLAN, on an FPGA board and set up an environment to measure its actual power consumption. In addition, we also design a simulative procedure and use the ModelSim tool to simulate Static and Dynamic Power consumption of the SFBA under different traffic loads. This is achieved by employing packet with various sizes that are based on internet statistics. The presented SFBA is applicable to the hardware structure of other IEEE 802.11 related standards, and can be combined with various EC or PS techniques. Moreover, the performance results obtained from simulation and measurement can be helpful for the design of memories that are resided in the MAC to manage communication traffic flows.
