Summary: | 碩士 === 長庚大學 === 化工與材料工程研究所 === 96 === An isothermal reaction calorimeter was utilized to measure reaction heat of esterification which includes the reaction of acetic acid and C1 to C4 alcohols at the temperature range from 61℃to 81℃.
The measure procedure was automatic controlled by the user’s set program. Heat of reaction can be calculated through the energy balance between reactor and its surrounding. Producing methyl acetate and ethyl acetate are exothermic, however, to produce n-propyl actate and n-butyl acetate show the reactions are endothermic.
In this study, the heat of reaction of methtyl acetate is -4.34 KJ/mole in 58℃. And the heat of reaction of ethtyl acetate is -1.14 KJ/mole in 61℃ and -0.87 KJ/mole in 71℃. The heat of reaction of n-propyl acetate is 2.23 KJ/mole in 61℃, 2.12 KJ/mole in 71℃ and 1.8 KJ/mole in 81℃.Finally, The heat of reaction of n-butyl acetate is 4.16 KJ/mole in 61℃, 3.85 KJ/mole in 71℃ and 3.48 KJ/mole in 81℃. And the error of experimental data and theory value is under 10%. Therefore, the accuracy of the isothermol reaction calorimeter which measure the enthalpies for esterification is very high.
