A cross-sectional and descriptive correlational design using a structured questionnaire was applied in this study. Two hundred and fifteen pregnant women (51 in the first trimester, 88 in the second trimester and 76 in the third trimester) were recruited. The data were analyzed using mean (standard deviation), median (range), One-way ANOVA, Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank test, Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis of variance by rank, Chi-Square Test and the Spearman rank correlation. The results are as fallows: 1.Women’s sexual satisfaction decreased significantly after prepregnacy, but sexual satisfaction and sexual function was not significantly different throughout pregnancy. 2.Women’s frequency of coitus decreased significantly throughout pregnancy (p<0.05). The frequency of coitus for most pregnant women was 0-1 time/4 weeks in the first and second trimester. More than 50% of pregnant women stopped coitus during the 4 weeks in the third trimester. “Man on top” was the most common sexual position for pregnant women. However, the percentage of varied sexual positions was not significantly different throughout pregnancy. 3.There was a positive correlation between sexual function, frequency of coitus, number of intimate activities and sexual satisfaction (p<0.05). 4.Those pregnant women with a higher frequency of coitus tended to use manual-caress (such as mutual manual-body caress without genitals and mutual masturbation: mutual manual genital caress). They also tended to use the woman on top sexual position and various other intimate activities. When women’s frequency of coitus increased or women on top was used during coitus, their sexual satisfaction during pregnancy was increased. The findings of this study can be used to produce a data base of pregnant women’s sexual life in Taiwan to help health care professionals understand and educate their clients about women’s sexuality during pregnancy. This information can assist in consultations with health education and reference on pregnant women’s quality of sexual life. Jian-Tao Lee 李絳桃 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 157 zh-TW
