Summary: | 碩士 === 長庚大學 === 護理學研究所 === 96 === A cross-sectional correlated study was performed to investigate body image and sexual satisfaction in pregnant women. Two hundred fifteen pregnant women were recruited form the gynecology and obstetrics department of a medical center in Northern Taiwan, during the period June 15 and July 15 2007. Two hundred and fifteen pregnant (99.7%) women completed the four structured questionnaire: demographic information, body image questionnaire, importance of others' view and sexual satisfaction questionnaire. Data analyses included average, standard deviation, median, range, percentage, Chi-Square Test, Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis of variance by rank, One-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, Spearman’s rho correlation and simple liner regression. The main results are shown as follows:
1. The pregnant woman's body image average score was 3.26, are explained pregnant woman feeling the body view is tends positive.The attitude toward body image depended upon the gestation and childbirth times, body mass index (BMI) and weight. The greater the gestation and childbirth times; body mass index (BMI) and weight, the more negative the attitude. However, the attitudes toward body image did not show obvious change with the gestation period progress.
2. The pregnant woman's sexual satisfaction average score was 4.31, are explained pregnant woman feeling the sexual is tends satisfaction.The higher the pregnant women's body mass index (BMI),the lower the overall sexual satisfaction. However, there was no change in their recent sexual satisfaction.
3. The importance of other’s view affected pregnant women’s satisfaction with their body. Interestingly, although they were unsatisfied with their body, they did not care about it and showed no obvious change in sexual satisfaction with the gestation period progress.
4. There was a positive correlation between body image and sexual satisfaction. This means that the greater the positive attitude with their body image the more sexual satisfaction they felt while they were pregnant.
5. The important prediction for changes in body image included gestation time, body mass index (BMI), importance of others' view and sexual satisfaction. The variance rates are explained as follows: 3.5% for the amount of gestation, 2.2% for body mass index (BMI), 2.2% for the gestation period actual increase in body weight, 4.2% for importance of others' view, and 5.2% for sexual satisfaction. Sexual satisfaction can predict pregnant woman's body image and explained 5.2% of the variance rates.
The result of this study provides more understanding about body image and sexual satisfaction of the pregnant women, it also helpful for the medical professionals be able to deal with the pregnant women who face with their body image changes and their sexual life problems. The medical professionals can provide better health consultation and improve the quality of pregnant women's sex-health knowledge.
