Hence, the Mobile Nodes and Multiple Interfaces in IPv6 (Monami6) [11] working group in Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is organized to produce standard track specifications to the problems associated with the simultaneous use of multiple interfaces and addresses for mobile hosts using Mobile IPv6.
Hand-around, a high density wireless integration network, is produced with the handoff evolution in the future network. Characteristics about Hand-around are analyzed and discussed in this paper. Advantages of Monami6 multiple interface registration are discovered under Hand-around network environment.
Through experiment, we find out that Monami6 has lower handoff latency than Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6). We also compare with other L3 multi-interface solution - Simultaneous Mobility Binding (SB-MIP) [9] and discover Monami6 efficiently conserves more bandwidth in our experiment.
We use NS-2 to simulate Monami6 multiple registration procedure and discuss interface selection issues in the end. Combining L2 auto-rate configuration in present wireless networks, we propose a steady rate packet to measure reliable bandwidth in the next network. We confirm that interface switch times can be decreased through appropriate interface selection mechanism in our experiment.
