The merger between Standard Chartered Bank and Hsinchu International Bank is utilized in the case study. The main findings are listed as follows. First, in order to adapt the merger between Standard Chartered Bank and Hsinchu International Bank, employees of the latter organized the Industrial Union. Soon, the title of the union was changed to Standard Chartered Bank (Taiwan) Industrial Union, which can verify that Hsinchu International Bank is the surviving one. Second, because of the broken collective bargaining, Standard Chartered Bank (Taiwan) Industrial Union had held the general meeting and voted for strike. As the result, the bargaining representatives reopened a bargaining meeting and signed a “conciliation memorandum”. It must be the best proof that Standard Chartered Bank (Taiwan) Industrial Union fights for the “right to strike” to support “right to bargain collectively”. Third, although Standard Chartered Bank (Taiwan) Industrial Union had set the date for strike and signed the “conciliation memorandum” before, the union still has the Right to strike so far. Finally, this article suggests that Standard Chartered Bank (Taiwan) Union and the management shall establish and maintain a harmonious bargaining situation to ensure the labor rights and promote the employee performance.
