Description
Summary:碩士 === 真理大學 === 宗教學系碩士班 === 96 === Siu-Gian Ritual (Soul restoration after disturbing encounters) is a common type of faith healing in Taiwan. Startled children and emotionally disturbed and anxious adults rely on Siu-Gian Ritual to solve their problems. In this research, religious worshippers of Taipei Hsing Tian Temple are adopted as study subjects. Using deep interviewsand questionnaire survey conducted to find out reasons for the religious worshippers to seek Siu-Gian Ritual at the temple. The study have been finded somethings: The first part of the discussion covers debates on the significance, historical background, and theoretic basis of Siu-Gian Ritual in order to draw inspiration and understand the basic implications of the present conditions and processes of the Siu-Gian Ritual rituals held at Taipei Hsing Tian Temple. The second part of the discussion covers the reasons for the 135 religious worshippers’ who go to Siu-Gian Ritual at Hsing Tian Temple. The background of the religious worshippers serves as the independent variable, the religious, social, and psychological factors that contribute to the religious worshippers’ Siu-Gian Ritual seeking serve as the interval variables, and Siu-Gian Ritual seeking serves as the dependent variable. A discussion is conducted on the relationship between the religious worshippers’ background variable and the possible factors that contribute to Siu-Gian Ritual . What is the motive behind worshippers go to Siu-Gian Ritual ? I has concluded three factors including religious, social, and psychological factors that promote the religious worshippers’ Siu-Gian Ritual at Hsing Tian Temple. These three hypotheses will be fully verified later on in this research. The third part of the discussion covers the reasons for the 135 religious worshippers’ Siu-Gian Ritual seeking at Hsing Tian Temple. The statistical “cross analysis” is used to find out the characteristics of the religious worshippers who are likely to seek Siu-Gian Ritual. Then, “factor analysis” is used to find out the actual reasons for their Siu-Gian Ritual seeking. The characteristics of the religious worshippers who are likely to seek Siu-Gian Ritual at Hsing Tian Temple are as follows: 1. Both men and women enjoy Siu-Gian Ritual seeking; 2. Young people do not discriminate against Siu-Gian Ritual seeking; 3. People with high education attainment accept Siu-Gian Ritual seeking; and 4. People who do not have religious faith also accept Siu-Gian Ritual seeking on regular basis when accompanied by family members. Finally, the focuses of this research lie on finding the reasons for the religious worshippers’ Siu-Gian Ritual seeking, the meaning, the theoretic basis of the Siu-Gian Ritual rituals , and the historical origin. In view of the three hypotheses, have indedthat the reason the religious worshippers seek Siu-Gian Ritual is to receive blessings from Guan-gong and immerse in the religious atmosphere of Hsing Tian Temple. This finding is different from the findings of researches conducted in the past. On the other hand, under the social factor category, most people who seek Siu-Gian Ritual wish to ask for blessings for their family members and themselves. This finding coincides with the Siu-Gian Ritual based theory. At east, under the psychological factor category, the reason for Siu-Gian Ritual seeking is to search for spiritual comfort and relieve stress. This finding is similar to the researchers’ theories. Can the findings in this research be inferred and applied in other Siu-Gian Ritual rituals? I recommended that comparative case studies and analysis on Siu-Gian Ritual rituals in ther temples, that will be conducted in future researches in order to obtain more objective results.
