The professional abilities of the elementary schools’ directors are important issues of the educational reform contents. This study was conducted to explore the survey of the elementary schools’ directors’ professional abilities from the perspective of the elementary schools’ principals in Yunlin County. The survey’s objects were 156 principals in Yunlin County. The collected data were further statistically analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, One-way ANOVA, and Scheffé post eriori Comparisons. The major findings of this study included: 1.The female principles of the elementary schools in Yunlin County emphasized on the importance of directors’ professional abilities more than the male principals. 2.There is no significant difference toward the importance of directors’ professional abilities between the principals in different ages But in the “the abilities of interpersonal relationship” aspect, there is significant difference. The older principals put more emphasis on the directors’ social abilities. 3.There is no significant difference between the different diploma levels of principles in the elementary school toward the importance of directors’ professional abilities. But there are significant differences in the aspects of“the abilities of teaching leadership” and “the professional abilities in education ” 4.There is no significant difference between the different seniorities of principles in the elementary school in Yunlin County toward the importance of the directors’ professional abilities. But there are significant differences in the aspect of the requirements of the directors. The expectation of the principles with 11-20 seniorities is higher than those of the other groups. 5.There is no significant difference toward the importance and requirements of the directors’ professional abilities between the principles in different sizes of elementary schools in Yunlin County. But the principals in the over 25-class schools show higher expectation to the directors’ professional anilities. 6.There is no significant difference toward the importance and requirements of the directors’ professional abilities between the principals in the different types (areas) of schools.
